A group of international students from countries such as Japan, Germany, China, and Brazil too, who go to different schools in St. James Division, went to Carnaval Brazilian BBQ Restaurant on Friday, October 25th, as a school activity to experience Brazilian food.
This is a really popular restaurant in Winnipeg, carving out a whole new experience in fine dining that combines the influence of local ingredients with the traditional Brazilian BBQ. Najara Barros, the owner's wife, originally from Brazil, said that mostly Canadian people enjoy the experience of eating here. In fact, almost 200 people visit the restaurant per day, and 350 on weekends. Najara also said that the owner, Noel Bernier created this place because he is interested in the Brazilian culture and he owns another restaurant where you can try South-American food.
Mali Ko, 16, from Germany, said that she really enjoyed the restaurant, and it was an interesting experience, "It was a different kind of food than the one that I normally eat. I liked it but I think it was a lot of meat. The restaurant itself looked really pretty and it was nice going there with such a huge group to meet new people," she said. Yeoh Manae, 16, from Japan, said that she was surprised, "The salad was sour and I never have seen cooked pineapple". Nicole Häck, 15, from Germany, thought that it was a different kind of food and it tasted very good, "Some things were a little bit too salty but I really liked it." Yuka Okuda, 15, from Japan, seemed surprised too and said that all the meats that she ate were really good. "It was interesting that people came to the table to give us meat. That was my first time and I had a good time!"
Brazilian cuisine has European and African influences. Ir varies greatly by region, reflecting the country's mix of native and immigrant populations, and its continental size as well. This has created a national cuisine marked by the preservation of regional differences. It is a unique type of food that when it is finally prepared it is perfect and delicious. And that's how the Carnaval Restaurant made everyone felt like, "I really enjoyed it, the food was very similar with what I normally eat and the employers are Brazilian" said Clara Arnaut, 16, from Brazil, "It really made me feel at home."
Carnaval Brazilian BBQ Restaurant is at 270 Waterfront Drive. Be sure to try the food and have an amazing dining experience, just like the International Students did.
